On May 18, the Division of Aviation celebrated Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with a special “East Meets Sweets” event, hosted by the airport's Capital Development team. Participants brought their favorite AAPI desserts to share with colleagues.

Elliot Lewis Landscape Maintenance Supervisor Barbara Hatty recently received the “Unsung Heroes” award in Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award honors employees who work behind the scenes and are not typically recognized for their work. Although they do not work directly with guests, their effectiveness has a major impact on the airport and guest experience.   

Mayor Jim Kenney announced today that, with Rochelle “Chellie” Cameron’s departure from the City, Keith Brune will become Acting CEO of the Division of Aviation, which includes Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE). A national search will be conducted to identify a permanent successor. Earlier on Thursday, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia announced that Cameron would become the organization’s next President and CEO. Her last day with the City of Philadelphia will be June 24, 2022.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) anticipates summer 2022 to be the airport’s busiest season in three years — the result of new and resumed service and the public’s growing desire to travel once again. 

Last month, Division of Aviation (DOA) employees concluded a four-month PHL Well “Biggest Loser” weight loss competition. This friendly contest came from employees' New Year’s resolutions to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is currently exhibiting two-dimensional works art by 36 autistic artists in the airport’s Youth Art Gallery, located in Terminal A-East Baggage Claim.

On April 26, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomed undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania’s Schools of Engineering, City Planning, and Environmental Studies as part of the airport's tour program. The students visited the ramp tower, airfield, and Engine 78. Taking a behind the scenes tour of an international airport is an opportunity that most people do not get to experience.

Chickie’s & Pete’s Bartender Danielle Dandridge recently received the “Impression Makers” award in Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award recognizes customer-facing employees who provide direct customer service to passengers.
