SLA Worldwide Brings Innovation to PHL

Meet SLA Worldwide, an Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) operator at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) which introduced the Lily Palmer Flowers and Gift shop, 1920 Merch and the Everything Travel Store to the airport in the last year. Programs like PHL’s ACDBE help socially, and economically disadvantaged small business owners compete against larger firms for airport contract opportunities.  

Meet PHL’s Capital Development Co-Ops

Every year, the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is excited to host college interns/co-ops and provide exposure to work experiences in the aviation industry. This year, seven students joined the Capital Development Group, contributing to an array of development projects across the airport. Here are some of their stories: 

 

Welcome PHL Interns- Never Stop Learning

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is pleased to welcome its new cohort of 17 interns. The students learned what they can look forward to while working at PHL and of the expectations the airport has of them at an internship onboarding program, led by Director of Workforce Development Chevelle Harrison and Training and Development’s Latia White, on July 17.   

City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation Receives  FAA Airport Improvement Program Supplemental Discretionary Grant

mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin">The City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation received a $220,800 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) Supplemental Discretionary Grant to support the Department’s Net Zero Decarbonization Plan, in line with the FAA’s Airports Climate Challenge program.  

PHL Unsung Heroes: United Airlines Certified Station Trainer Marvin Avestruz

United Airlines Designated Station Trainer Marvin Avestruz recently received the “Unsung Heroes” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program, which honors employees who work behind the scenes and are not typically recognized for their work. Although they do not work directly with guests, their effectiveness significantly affects the airport and guest experience.      

Wagging Tails Brigade Dogs Support Trauma Survivors

In March 2019, Philadelphia International Airport's (PHL) Guest Experience (GX) Department introduced the Wagging Tails Brigade, including a group of furry, friendly dogs in partnership with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and most recently, Comfort Caring Canines. Within both organizations, dogs go through a variety of training and tests.
