GENERAL
Stationary Engineer (7E34)
This is full performance/journey level stationary engineering work operating and maintaining high-tonnage pressurized boiler and chiller systems and related components in a large physical plant facility. Employees in this class on an assigned shift monitors the systems’ automation, checking and adjusting temperature and pressure readings and maintaining refrigerant, chemical and water levels in the systems. Work includes touring the physical plant facilities to inspect and to repair defective components. Work is performed under the supervision of a technical superior and involves some disagreeable aspects and light physical effort.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 7/19.
Education
Education equivalent to completion of the 12th school grade.
AND
License
Possession of a valid grade "A" Steam Boiler, Stationary and Refrigeration Engineer license as issued by the Philadelphia Department of Licenses & Inspections.
AND
Experience
Four years of experience in the stationary engineer trade which has included operating and maintaining high-tonnage pressurized boiler and chiller systems and related components in a commercial or industrial facility.
Physical and Medical Requirements
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of this class.
Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certificates:
- Possession of a grade "A" Steam Boiler, Stationary and Refrigeration Engineer license as issued by the Philadelphia Department of Licenses & Inspections prior to the scheduled examination and during tenure as a Stationary Engineer.
- Possession of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Universal Technician Certificate for the proper handling of CFCs within six months of appointment.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Stationary Engineer.
