PHL Safe & Sound: Airport Police Officer Daniel Davis

Airport Police Officer Daniel Davis recently received the “Safe & Sound” award in Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award recognizes employees who protect the integrity and safety of passengers through proactive communication, exemplary teamwork, courage, and effective action.

Officer Daniel DavisDavis has been with the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) since 1989 and came to PHL in 2014. He upholds the safety of PHL by collaborating with other government safety agencies throughout the airport, such as TSA and U.S. Customs Border Protection (CBP). He typically works the 3– 11 p.m. shift.

While on-the-job, Davis demonstrates transcending expectations, effectiveness, and respect.

In his nomination of Davis, active military member and passenger Ming Zhang stated, “I appreciate Officer Davis for assisting me next to the information desk outside the security checkpoint at Terminal E. When he heard me asking for help, he took the initiative to take me on his police cart to search for my lost cell phone in Terminal A. Due to his prompt action, I was able to locate my cell phone which saved me from any hassle and significant financial loss.”

Additionally, Davis also assisted another passenger retrieve his military ID from the airport’s USO outpost after it closed for the day.

“Helping people makes me feel good,” said Davis. “I just want people to pay it forward and make a positive difference. That’s all I ask.”

Coworkers describe Davis as being humble and well rounded. Throughout his career, Davis has worked in different areas of the city and is accustomed to working with diverse groups of people. He is trained in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) for deescalating situations. “I just want to go home every day, like everyone else,” he said.

Because of his performance, Davis is frequently assigned to work with the United States Secret Service during presidential and other VIP visits. He enjoys the airport environment and loves seeing planes, including the Airbus A321 and 787 Dreamliner.

Davis loves spending time with his family when he’s not working and has enjoyed family trips to Mexico, Italy, and Greece. He considers himself a foodie and enjoys several restaurants in the city, including Fez Moroccan Restaurant, among others.

“I thank the gentleman who nominated me,” said Davis. “Within our airport unit I want to thank the PPD’s Lieutenant Brady. If I can make an impact, I’m fine with that, but I don’t do it for the accolades.”

The PHL Employee Recognition Program was established by the airport’s Guest Experience (GX) Department. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by the GX Council Steering Committee’s Employee Conduct and Recognition Committee.
