January 2023 Newsletter
Atif Saeed

Hello Team PHL and PNE,

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. I am excited to start 2023 in Philadelphia in the new Department of Aviation. Thank you again for the warm welcome you have given me. The

reception I have received has been - and continues to be - incredible. I felt like a member of the PHL/PNE team right away.

In the past month, I have had the pleasure of meeting some groups in person. I am extremely impressed with the good work that is taking place at PHL and at PNE. Across every aspect of the airports, there are many employees with a wealth of industry and institutional knowledge.

I have worked at airports for many years, however, while the fundamentals of airport operations are the same, each airport and community is different. I must rely on your expertise and knowledge of what is important for our organization to help guide our decision-making process going forward. Your insights and feedback will be invaluable as we work together to enhance our airports for guests, staff and stakeholders. Who better than to learn from those who make sure PHL and PNE are operating safely and securely every day?

Over the next several weeks, I will continue to visit with teams across the DOA. I want to know about you, your projects, how your units work and your ideas for improving the airports. After these listening sessions, we will engage in a dialogue regarding the airports’ future. Of course, there will be pressing decisions that need to be made. However, long-term planning will come after I have had the opportunity to meet with the airport communities. I want to assure you that, while there will probably be adjustments to make us better airports for our staff, our passengers, our stakeholders and our region, they will be made collaboratively, gradually and thoughtfully.

Please know that I want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their ideas — everyone deserves to have their voices heard. I have an open-door policy. I don’t want anyone to feel as though they can’t stop by my office to talk — or stop me when they see me in the terminals. Open communication and collaboration will help us reach our goal of making the DOA the best.

Let me close by saying that in my short time here, I have learned that Philadelphians are passionate about the city (and their sports teams and who has the best cheesesteak) and strive to be first in everything, including having the country’s best airports. This dedication to being number one excites me. I know that we are on the same page when it comes to moving the airports forward and achieving our highest potential.

Thank you for everything you do for our airports — and each other — every day. I am looking forward to working with you all.

-Atif
