February 2023 Newsletter
Atif Saeed

Hi Team PHL and PNE.

I hope your new year is off to a good start.

We are all busy and I wanted to thank those of you who have taken time to meet with me in your areas, sent emails or stopped by the office to say hello or

provide your thoughts on the airports. The feedback I have received has been very insightful and I appreciate the time you have given me.  I’m looking forward to engaging with more employees at staff meetings across the airports, as well as sharing my thoughts from these listening tours in the coming weeks.

While I continue to make my way across the DOA, I have also begun meeting with elected officials, local and regional leaders and members of the Airport Advisory Board.  PHL and PNE are vital economic engines for the Greater Philadelphia Region. Understanding expectations and receiving input from stakeholders at the city, regional and federal level is necessary for the DOA to continue to grow and have a meaningful impact in our service area.

I have said since I arrived in Philadelphia that I am impressed by how passionate our airport team members are about the city and being the best airport in the country. I am also impressed by our staff’s willingness to learn about each other and our diverse cultures. Black History Month provides a great opportunity to promote dialogue and gain a better understanding of the challenges many face every day. The Racial Equity Advisory Council (REAC) has planned a robust series of events throughout the month, and I encourage all of you to take time to participate in the activities.  I also ask managers to allow interested staff members to attend events when possible.

Thank you all for your continued support.  I hope to see you at the REAC events and during meetings at the airports.

Atif

CISA Releases Phishing Infographic

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency  (CISA) recently released an infographic (CISA Phishing Infographic) which provides a summary of how threat actors execute successful phishing attacks.  CISA recommends that stakeholders such as the DOA use this information to help educate users on how to spot and avoid phishing attacks.

secure home network

CIS (Center for Internet Security) recently released a blog on tips to secure your home network against cyber threats.  Our homes now have all types of devices that connect to the internet - including TVs, thermostats, cameras, doorbells, and coffee pots.  Use this link to read up on CIS’s recommendations for keeping your home network secure.  This includes actions like using current hardware, changing default passwords, and using WiFi encryption.  Read more here!

Avoid MFA Attacks

Hackers are always looking for ways to bypass an organization’s security.  With Multi-Factor Authentication enabled on accounts, hackers now need to bypass this for a successful attack.  One way to do this is to send the victim user repeated MFA prompts in the hope that they will click “Approve”.  Never approve an MFA request you did not initiate and inform the Helpdesk if you are prompted for an MFA approval without expecting one. The Helpdesk can be contacted at 215-937-5579 (HELP) or [email protected].

DOA Team Volunteers for MLK Day of Service

Volunteers on MLK Day

On January 13, Assistant Director of Community Engagement Keesha Lane led a team of DOA volunteers for a community service project at Bethesda Project in observance of MLK Day. Keesha, who described the experience as humbling and rewarding, said "We began our day at Bethesda by rolling up our sleeves and cleaning common use areas.  After housekeeping, we provided residents with snack boxes filled with goodies. We ended our visit on a high note by playing games and interacting with residents and staff. This opportunity helped build comradery amongst PHL staff and hopefully lifted the hearts and spirits of some of the most vulnerable in our communities."

A special thank you to Linda Ivey, Leah Douglas, Jeremiah Hall, Zoraida Antonetty, and Jackie Lewis who served with their hearts as well as their hands.
