PHL Celebrates Inaugural Flights to Three European Cities

On June 6, the Department of Aviation, American Airlines, the World Affairs Council, and OTG celebrated Americans' three new European cities. Guests officially welcomed nonstop destinations Nice, France (NCE), Naples, Italy (NAP), and Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH).

Embarking on a journey to and from Nice has never been easier, with flights commencing on May 6 and operating daily through October 5. The Naples route, a gateway to Italian cuisine, took off on June 5 and will continue to operate daily until October 25. And for those seeking stunning landscapes, the Copenhagen service from Philadelphia launched on June 6, offering daily flights until October 5.

Speakers included PHL CEO Atif Saeed, Lakshman Amaranayaka, American Airlines’ Vice President of Philadelphia Hub Operations, and Lauren Swartz, President and CEO of the World Affairs Council.

PHL collaborated with WAWA Welcome America to provide entertainment for the celebration. Trumpeter Fabien Enger and guitarist Huck Browne opened the event by taking guests to the French Riviera with their rendition of classic French jazz songs like “Les Feuilles Mortes.” Enger and vocalist Gino Cortopassi closed the event with jazz favorite “Mambo Italiano.”

The World Affairs Council presented cultural tips and phrase palm cards from all three cities. The council also provided an international candy station and mocktails inspired by the destinations:

-The Danish Summer

-The Dreams of Naples

-The French 75

The food menu, provided by OTG, also included flavors of the destinations, including caponata dip, Nicoise salad, smorrebrod (open-face sandwiches), smoked salmon, roast beef, soft-boiled eggs, Danishes, croissants, a charcuterie board, tapenade, Caprese salad, tomato bruschetta, and biscotti.
