Tradition-based art, music, dance, and storytelling have always been an important aspect of African culture. The traditional African aesthetic, embodies both the physical and spiritual worlds.

This exhibition is a sampling of tradition-based masks, figures, and utilitarian objects created by craftsmen from a variety of African ethnic groups. These artifacts were created primarily for ceremonial purposes in honor of gods, ancestors, and other spiritual beings.

The objects presented in this exhibition were borrowed from the collective of African art preservers Herman Bigham and Associates, Philadelphia. It is their mission to broaden the exposure of African culture and its legacy by sharing these powerful artifacts with a wider audience.
